Blackened Ham Steak

This is Dianne’s “go to” easy weeknight dinner.  She can make enough rub to keep in an airtight container for several uses.  There are so many options to serve with the ham like baked sweet potatoes, black beans or even a mango salsa as a compliment.  We are huge fans of P-I-G, so we can eat this recipe any time.   You might try some of the Full House Chili (recipe for October 2011) as a side dish for a ghoulish Halloween dinner treat!  Don’t forget the J2 Winery wine!

Prep and Cook: 30 minutes

Note: Blackening Spice makes enough for 1-2 ham steaks depending on how much rub you like.


  • 2 Tsp. brown sugar
  • 1 Tsp. paprika
  • 1 Tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 Tsp. black pepper
  • 1 Tsp. dried thyme
  • ½ Tsp. cayenne
  • 1 Center cut ham steak


  1. Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and rub on ham steak. 
  2. Heat a grill pan and cook the ham 3-5 minutes per side.

Serve with your favorite red wine.  Might I suggest a J2 Winery red wine . . . .
